I went to the gym and lived to tell about it!

Yep, I had my first work-out at the gym tonight! It’s a local gym called Tag’s and my mom gave me a free month’s pass for my birthday. So here’s how it went:

My sister works there, so I didn’t feel as awkward or paranoid as I would have had I not known anyone there. She showed me around and got me started on the treadmill. She wanted to put my incline much higher, but I settled on 2.0 to start with a speed of 1.5 mph. I was fine and doing pretty good until I asked if I had walked a mile yet and my sister pointed out that I had only walked .17 of a mile! Are you KIDDING me?? I swear I had walked farther! I increased my incline and speed both to 2.0 for the last 1/2 mile and I was really feeling it in my legs. My face was beet red. My legs were like jello when I stopped. My sister convinced me to give the Elliptical a try. It looked like an easy enough machine…”eh, I can do this”, I said.

Elliptical

Then I started doing it and quickly realized this machine was the personification of pure evil. I have never, ever, ever felt such a burning in my legs as I did on that thing. WOW. I couldn’t even do 2 minutes. Wow. Wow. Wow. Well, now I’m bound and determined to conquer that monster, so – new goal!

I got off the elliptical after 1.5 minutes (thank GOD) and did about 10 or so minutes on the exercise bike before the gym closed. All in all, it was a great experience. My legs are sore and it will probably be worse tomorrow, but it will all be worth it in the end.

See how red my face got on that machine from hell?

The eliptical IS a machine from hell. SO many people tell me to do it as an alternate form of cardio…but I tell you I would rather run a marathon than do 30 minutes on that thing!! AND I refuse to do a marathon!!!Good for you tho…the last time I tried, i think I lasted 30 seconds and said to hell with this and went back to the treadmill…come to think of it, that was the same day I started running sprints on the treadmill…guess I can say my abhorance for the eliptical drove me to run!

Whew, glad to know I wasn’t the only one who hated that thing! I think I’ll give it another try because I’m stubborn like that. I just couldn’t believe how hard it was. I can’t wait to be able to run like you on the treadmill!
