I’ve been reading a lot of blogs lately…some are by people who have lost tremendous amount of weight and are now living a healthy lifestyle (SO inspiring)…some are from people who are just starting out on their journey (like me) and wanting to live a healthy lifestyle…and some are from people who’ve never had a weight issue and have always lived a healthy lifestyle…and you know what? They all seem to have one thing in common…good food. I know, you’re thinking “duh!”, but I’m talking about the kind of food that I’ve never even tried because I just always assumed it was nasty. Food that I’ve never even heard of. Food that sounds too good-for-you to be good. I’ve eaten a lot of food in my life (obviously) but I’m no food connoisseur by any means. The more pre-packaged it was, the better! So, in the spirit of good food, I’m starting a list of foods that I want to try no matter what preconceptions I might have about them.
Salmon – I’ve never had it and never had an interest to try. My mind says “yuck” but I hear/read so many people say wondrous things about it that I just think I might have to give it a try.
Apricot – I know you’re probably wondering how I could live 35 years and never try apricot, but I haven’t that I know of. I think it’s time to change that.
Kale – I didn’t even know what it was until today. Oh the shame.
There’s a lot more too like lentils, papaya, eggplant, and spaghetti squash. A friend just turned me on to Spaghetti Squash and mentioned it can be used as a substitute for spaghetti. Who would have known? So, yeah, now that BK and McD are no longer options for me, I’d really like to widen my food horizons. Find some great low calorie, high protein foods that I’ve never had. Who knows, I just might like them!
Got any suggestions? Were there any healthy foods that you never had when you started on your journey, that now you love?

Hi Josie. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m excited to read through yours and get to know you better. I really like salmon. I haven’t had too much to do with kale unless it is swimming in a creamy potato and sausage soup at the Olive Garden
but it is one thing that I’m hoping to get to know better in a more healthy environment
Lentils are also something that I’ve been curious about. Oh, and spaghetti squash is my favorite of the squashes. I had some just last night.
I struggle with breakfast. I really like oatmeal so I’ve been trying to work new and interesting things into my oatmeal. So far, berries, bananas, and nuts are working well. I want to try pumpkin, but as of yet haven’t been brave enough.

salmon is awesome!! and spaghetti squash…oh my…I am planning on making turkey spaghetti next week with the spaghetti squash!! It is sooo chep in calories…it is ridiculous!

@Kim – now that I’ve tried a turkey burger (and loved it) I’m not so scared anymore to make turkey spaghetti and such. I *think* I may have talked my husband into it too.
I used to live in salmon country, so salmon is one of my favorite fishes. If you liked a turkey burger, try a salmon burger! Spaghetti squash is just fun. I’m not a huge kale fan, but I’ve seen two recipes now that call for tearing kale from it’s tough stems, spraying it with olive oil (not too much fat using a spray) and then putting it in the oven for a few minutes to become CRISPY! Kale chips, basically. Michael Pollan is one of the sources and I trust that man about food. I keep meaning to try this.
