As I previously mentioned, I’m not “officially” part of this challenge, because I got in too late, so this is just for fun.
My goals for last week were:
- No carbonated beverages. period. Success!
- Minimum of 5 hours of gym per week. Almost…about 4.75!
- Walk at least 13 miles for the week. Failed. Walked 9.
- Last 5 minutes on the Elliptical. Success! (Lasted NINE!)
- Cook dinner at least once per week. Success! Well, it was breakfast, but still a meal!
So there it is. I was real stoked about lasting 9 minutes on the elliptical, but really wish I had logged more miles prior to my injury. I still had a great week, all things considered, even if I didn’t meet all my goals.
The Hot 100 Challenge is hosted by Steve and you can read more about it here.
Now for an update on my injury. I finally got in to see the Orthopedic doctor today, and what he told me even further confirmed my statement the other night about the ER “doctors” being useless. He told me that the X-rays they took at the ER WASN’T EVEN OF MY SHOULDER. They were of my elbow area. Which made me wonder how could they possibly “diagnose” me with a torn Rotator Cuff if they didn’t even X-ray my shoulder?! Well, in a nutshell, the ER’s diagnosis was wrong. It’s not my rotator cuff, it’s my BICEP. (No wonder that area of my arm was swollen..) He said that I tore the muscles/ligaments in my right bicep and recommended some “exercises” for me to do with my arm to improve my range of motion. He wants me to come back in a week and if it’s improved then we’ll continue on the path of letting it heal itself with physical therapy (in lieu of surgery, etc). I can’t tell you how relieved I was! (But angry as all get out with the ER, but I’ll save that rant for another day.
) I am able to move my arm a little more than I was yesterday even, so I’m very hopeful that this plan of self-healing will work.
So, in terms of my fitness, it’s a bummer, because I had started to use the strength training machines last week and was hoping to soon increase my reps/lbs. Now,it looks like that will have to be put on hold till my bicep can heal properly…and I’m cool with that. It’ll just give me more time to focus on my walking and *hopefully* running soon. So, thank you every one for your well wishes, prayers and encouragement that you left me. It has helped me to stay motivated in the face of some pretty discouraging obstacles this week and I appreciate it more than you know!
If you want to see a picture of the ridiculous looking immobilizer they have me wearing, just click on my photo page, where I just uploaded my picture for Week 5. It’s like a girdle it’s so tight, but at least it gives me a waistline! haha!

Josie, I am glad to read it was not a torn rotator cuff, and that this can likely heal on its own with a little help. Take care of it and it won’t be long until you are back in the full stride of it all.
That is so frustrating, I’m sorry. There are always bumps in the road aren’t there? Sometimes those bumps are big ol wells.
Hey girl, I can tell by your new pic that you have lost weight. You look great!!!! Even w/ the sling!
I’m so glad it’s “only” a bicep problem.
But yeah, at least you can keep on walking and running.
I think it’s funny that you feel you “failed” on your walking goal (well, you did miss your goal), but 9 miles in a week is great! And you’ve been making some great progress–especially on the elliptical!
Again, so glad that your elbow (er…shoulder) wasn’t as bad as on the xray
Crazy ER doctors…
Sometimes I wonder where the ER doctors get there licenses! Glad to hear that your injury isn’t as bad as thought. In no time you will be back in action!
Keep up with your walking. You are doing great! And when you are ready, the C25K program is a great program to get a person started in running!
Steve, me too. I was really scared thinking I would need surgery and all, so hopefully it does self-heal. Thanks again for your comments.
Robin, yes, it does seem like a big ol’ well, but I’ll climb out soon! Thanks.
Lynne, you’re too sweet. Can’t wait to see you again next week.
beej, 9 miles is good…I started to think maybe I set my goal too high for me right now with everything going on, but I didn’t want to seem like I was slacking. I still walk so slow (about 20-22 min miles) that it’s real time consuming to get those miles in when I work full time and have two kids. ya know? That’s why, as evil as I think the elliptical is, I almost like it more because I burn more calories in less time. Thanks so much for your comments!
Karyn, my boss says “that’s why doctors are PRACTICING medicine!” LOL Thanks for the encouragement. I do plan on starting the c25k soon once I’ve worked up my endurance more.
Josie, holy crap on that misdiagnosis! NOT a good thing!!!! Keep us the great work & it is frustrating getting thru this BUT you will get thru it! Congrats on all your successes!
I think all those goals are great, not only because you made them, but you achieved most of them! Don’t beat yourself for not being perfect, instead celebrate all you did do!
Keep up the great work!
Well, at least now you know what’s wrong! and at lease you met some of your goals
BL was awesome last night! And actually, Tracy didn’t seem that crazy in the end – if you go on biggest loser.com she answers video questions – it was kind of interesting!
Happy Hump Day!
Glad you found out exactly what was wrong. Sending healing vibes…get better soon!
Josie – so sorry about that. It is good you don’t need surgery because that would be soooo tough. Please take care of yourself. You can get through this and still lose weight in the process. It’s not as easy as when you can put the pedal to the medal and exercise – but it can be done!
Glad to read that you won’t need surgery. And, honestly, physical therapy can be good exercise, so you’ll probably end up with good muscle tone!
