Random Ramblings

I am SO ready for the weekend to get here! It’s been a tiring week.

I haven’t driven all week because my car is a stick shift and I can’t really drive it right now with my arm the way it is…so my husband has been driving me to and from work which is a 45 minute drive each way – bless his heart! In a way, it’s been a blessing this week that he didn’t have to work for this reason alone…had he still had his job he wouldn’t have been able to take me each day. (See? This is me trying to look at the bright side of his unemployment. )

This is embarrassing to admit, but we got approved for reduced school lunches for my kids today. I really hated the idea of applying, but I had to put my pride aside and just do it. We were paying around $130/month for their school lunches which was nothing when Darren had a paycheck coming in. It’s been reduced to about $30, so that will be a huge relief until Darren can find another job…which is hopefully SOON.

I haven’t done ANY exercise since my fall Sunday. None. I haven’t even taken the stairs at work (which I had been doing every day since starting this journey). Sure, my legs are fine and I guess there is no excuse for why I haven’t been working out, but I guess I just didn’t want to take a chance and hurt my arm more. I’m just so clumsy. LOL So, I’m anxious to get back to the gym to get a good cardio workout. I miss it. Maybe Saturday morning.

My food intake has been sketchy this week. Yes, I had some Halloween candy. And koolaid. And fried potatoes. Fried potatoes are a definite “trigger food” for me. I hadn’t had them at all since I began this journey, so man was my stomach hating me afterwards!

Needless to say I’m nervous about what the scale will have to say on Monday. All I can do is make the next 3 days the best I can and shoot for a better (injury free) week next week. I REALLY want to start running, so I plan on starting the C25K program soon. And I did sign up for the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot which is a 5k walk…so these will hopefully help me stay on track and devoted to my long term goals.

Arm’s doing better, but still hurts like crazy when I make any movement that requires use of my bicep. And it’s started to “pop” at times, which I need to remember to ask the doc about at my follow up appt next week.

Guess that’s all the rambling I’ve got for the night. Am happy tomorrow’s Friday – that’s for SURE!!! How about you?

Hey Josie, way to look at the bright side! I’m glad that you’re choosing to look at your husband’s layoff in a good light.

On the other hand, though, I think you could have made better choices in walking up the stairs and eating well. But it’s a time of stress, and it’s understandable. I hope you’ll be able to right your ship. Know that I’ll be praying for you!

…and I’m really excited about the 5k you have planned!

One thing I make when I’m craving fries are my own.

1 baked potato, cut into strips (I leave the skin on) about 2 tsp. olive oil, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper and bake at 400 for about 20-25 minutes until they are browned, stirring occassionally.

I’ve also just tried doing that with sweet potatoes, and I don’t even like sweet pototoes, but making them into fries, I love them!

Good luck on your weigh in on Monday!

I feel for you. Back in 2005 my husband’s company let everyone go unexpectedly. I ended up working two jobs to keep our head above water – I worked my day job from 7:00 a.m. to 3:45, then 3 weekday nights from 4:30 to 11:00 and Saturday and Sunday’s from 3:00 to 12:00.

I did that for 8 months – you can imagine I was skinny back then – no time to eat! :D Fingers crossed hubby gets a job soon!

Hugs!

Definitely get back to the stairs girl! Go with the attitude that you will be fine and will NOT hurt your arm more and you will be okay! Keep a reign on the junk! We care about you and don’t want you to lose your progress so far. I know it’s tough but, keep at it.

@Teresa – Thanks so much!

@Jenn- That recipe sounds great, I’ll have to try it. Thanks for sharing!

@Biz – Wow you were a busy woman! Thanks for the hugs and well wishes, hopefully he finds one before I have to resort to what you did. WoW!

@Karyn – That is so sweet of you to say. Thank you, I do plan to keep at it and am very much looking forward to the gym tomorrow.

Hi Josie.. just don’t let these times get to you in terms of exercise/eating. This when we need to be healthy & feel better about ourselves the most!

You are trying & keep the chin up & love that you have joined up to do the 5k & other things!

Last year, I was attacked by that dog & I did not let that deter me. I was forced to take 1 week off per the doctor BUT after that, I just got on my cardio equipment & hill walked vs. jog, I did the stepmill which is a hard workout (like you doing your stair workout… so just find some things that you can do that will not hurt the injury further.

Hang in there!
