Week 10 – Weigh-In and Hot 100 Update

by Josie on December 7, 2009 · 20 comments

Another week and another loss. I weighed in at 232.9, which is a .7 pound loss for the week. This brings my total weight loss since 9/28 to 23.1 pounds. See the rest of my progress by clicking here. I will update my progress pictures tonight.

So, I’m thinking a few things at the close of this week. For starters, I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but I was kinda bummed to see only a .7 loss. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with the loss and I’ll definitely take it – I just think I could be losing more if I just stepped up my game a bit. I don’t want to lose at Biggest Loser rates, ‘a slow loss is a healthy loss’ and all that, but I think increasing my intensity a little is what I need right now. I guess I don’t want to hit a plateau and I feel that will happen unless I make some changes to my routine. Now.

Now for my Hot 100 Update:

hot100-small

As I previously mentioned, I’m not officially part of this challenge, because I got in too late, so this is just for fun.

My goals for last week were:

  • No carbonated beverages. period. Sucess!
  • Complete Week 1 Days 1-3 of C25K training. Success!
  • Walk at least 5 miles for the week. Failed. Walked 3.5.
  • Bring my lunch everyday to work. Failed. Forgot 2 days.
  • Cook dinner at least once this week. Failed.
  • Don’t buy any holiday decorationsSucess!

I guess the big news this week is that I finally started the C25K program. I still haven’t “conquered” day 1 yet – I’m finding the jogging part to be really difficult. I get out of breathe really quick and wind up walking the rest of the way. I like a challenge though so I’m determined to see it through. It reminds me of when I first started on the elliptical and could barely last a minute. I still have a hate/love relationship with that thing. I hate that it’s so brutal, but I love that it’s a really good workout…well, that and it takes me a third of the time to burn more calories than on the treadmill!

So in the spirit of me “stepping up my intensity” here are a few new goals I am adding for next week:

  • Don’t binge on holiday food.
  • Go to the gym at least 3 days this week.
  • Keep working at C25K Day 1.
  • Eat at least 1 apple each day.
  • Walk/jog 7 miles.

The Hot 100 Challenge is hosted by Steve and you can read more about it here.

Last week, I really enjoyed listing the songs in my playlist and reading yours, so I wanted to doo it again this week. Here are the first 10 songs on my playlist this morning:

  1. Stay Away by Nirvana
  2. O Holy Night by Josh Groban
  3. Elevation by U2
  4. 83 by John Mayer
  5. Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughan
  6. Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks
  7. Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson
  8. Roll On by Kid Rock
  9. Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac
  10. When the Children Cry by White Lion

That will be my last list for a while :-) Have a great Monday everyone!

Congrats on the loss and on finishing Week 1 of the Couch25k program! So you’re gonna redo it till you feel comfortable with it? I think i am, too…amazing how the toughest part of this is breathing, not leg/knee pain (not that they don’t hurt, but…lol)

Hey, a 0.7 loss is okay. think about htat. If you kept that up for a year, it would be over 35 pounds a year! That’s not too shabby. But yea, I think your Vigilance-Girl Cape could be used some more…

I love your poleay list…Josh Groban’s O Holy Night? Love it!! (In fact, one year for Christmas, Anna made me a complitaion CD with like 15 different versions of O Holy Night–it’s my favorite Christmas song) I guess I have to do my 10 songs, too:

1. I Could Sing of Your Love Forever- Salvador
2. Sing Praises- Third Day
3. I Will Get There- Prince of Egypt Soundtrack
4. Scar- Fuel
5. Requiem- John Rutter
6. Misty Moon Waltz- Appalachian Journey
7. The Longer I Lay Here- Pedro the Lion
8. Golotha Tenement Blues- The Crow Soundtrack
9. I’m Yours- Jason Mraz
10. I Don’t Want to Be- Gavin DeGraw

Congratulations on your loss! I have always been a once a month weigher because I like to see the bigger number. For the past two months it has been gains both times, but we will see what my next weigh in brings.

Good for you for sticking to the C25K. Don’t give up! You can do it Josie!

Mary – Thanks so much. You inspire me!

Craig – I thought I was weird because the breathing thing bothered me more than any aches/pains in my legs! I’m just gonna keep at it and hope you do too!

beej – I can always count on you to give me good ole statistics. The engineer in me loves that! Thanks. O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas song too. I’ve never heard a version that didn’t cause me to shed a tear. Or two. :-P

Kimberley – Thank you for the encouragement. I am rooting for you and hopefully you’ll see a big ole loss next time!

With my back issue, I didn’t get to do Day 3 yet. So I’m repeating Week 1 until I master it! You’re not alone, girl! If it takes us 119 weeks instead of 9 weeks, we’ll do it!

I really pray you don’t plateau. I’ve been in the same 5-10 pound range for the past 8 months, sweating my arse off and keeping workouts fresh and exciting. My trainer was stumped, I was stumped. I was getting discouraged. I thought my thyroid was the only problem, but now I’m not so sure. My trainer is again stumped, I’m stumped again, too. I go to the doctor in a few weeks to find out what the he!! is going on. Since I started on my thyroid med, I’ve lost 6.2 pounds, and now I’m stuck again. Plateaus are absolutely wretched and I hope you don’t have to live through them. And if you do ever experience one, may they be short-lived!! :-)

Any loss is a good loss!!! Celebrate 0.7! You did it!

Congrats on another loss Josie. You are doing great. I think that by starting the C25K that you will be adding intensity to your workouts. Just keep at it and don’t worry about mastering it. That will come with the effort and consistency. You will definitely see progress. You have done so well since September. Yay!

Good job on the weight loss, sometimes it just don’t go as fast as we’d wish. I am a slow loser, it took me a while to accept that but now I do, I just have to be patient but changing your routine is a good plan, it might help you to lose a bit more next week.

Good luck!

I totally hear you on being discouraged about the loss. A loss is a loss, and thats great and all that, but I lost .6 pounds this week, and know I could have done better. It’s success, but for me it seems like it has a dash of personal failure mixed in.

You’re doing an awesome job so far, and congrats on c25k!

Good job Josie!!!!!! A loss is a loss BUT with your determination to change up your routine & add a bit more intensity, that should help too! Stay with it! Yes, jogging is hard but it takes time to get there so don’t give up! Food is 70%+ of this too so stay focused & you are doing great with your goals!!!

CONGRATS!

I’ve been fighting my way through a plateau (mostly of my own making with less than diligent eating) over the last month or so. Just keep losing, even if it’s only in blocks of .7.

As long as you’re losing, you’re still headed in the right direction.

Josie, I know how hard it is when the weight doesn’t come off as fast as we want it too, especially when we think we could still step it up a bit, but don’t get discouraged. You are still moving in the right direction.

Your doing great Josie. Just keep up the great workouts and healthy eating and it will come. It has taken me most of a year to lose 10 lbs but, I know a lot of my problem was stress over dealing with my mom’s estate. It is finally starting to move in the right direction for me again.

Don’t give up on the C25K. Keep working at week one until you can get through it fine, then on to week two. It will also give your body the boost and push it needs. Your body is probably in shock right now about what you are doing to it and holding on to water for dear life. :) Drink extra as you are working out harder, and soon your body will give in.
