I had an intense (for me) workout in the gym last night. I walked 2.5 miles at 3.0 mph, sometimes upping it to 3.5 mph. I also did 5 minutes on the Spawn of Satan and some hand weight exercises. Here’s where I need to jump in with an arm update.
You may or may not remember when I fell and injured my arm back in October. At first I was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder, but the orthopedic later diagnosed me with a badly torn bicep. Those first couple of weeks were bad…I couldn’t even dress myself,
but, over time it started to get better to where I could at least function. It still hurts when I reach for something or put my hands behind my back or move it suddenly, so it’s nowhere near completely healed, but at least I can function. My doctor told me it would be ok to go ahead and start doing basic exercises with it starting with a 1 lb weight and the resistance bands. Well, last night was the first time for me trying it. And I didn’t do much, really; just some basic reps. Well, I also did that thing…you know, where you hold your arm out to the side and just hold it there for as long as you can – and then hold it even longer. Yeah, that. And you know, I was walking pretty fast (for me), and my arms were moving the whole time as I walked. Well, I am definitely feeling it today. My arm is so sore. I just hope the soreness I’m feeling is ‘normal’ for my injury and the workout I did and that it’s ok for me to keep on at the same intensity. I’d hate to overdo it and make the injury worse, ya know?
Hey, I’m just happy I went! I wanted to go again this morning before work but couldn’t drag my butt out of bed in time. So, it looks like I’ll be going this evening to make up for it. I’ve just got to be home in time to watch the season premier of the Biggest Loser. Yes, my name is Josie and I love reality TV.
For my food today, I didn’t have breakfast. I know that’s a big no-no, but I was running way behind this morning and didn’t have anything I could just take with me. I had a grilled chicken wrap and yogurt w/fruit for lunch. Darren’s making tacos tonight and he’s making me some with grilled chicken instead of beef.
I should also note that I don’t eat mine with cheese or sour cream. I have mine with veggies (lettuce, tomato, onion) and salsa on a whole wheat tortilla…so this should be a great day as far as calories go!
By the way, I will start putting this little countdown at the bottom of my posts indicating where I stand in my goal to walk 500 miles for the year:
497.5 miles from reaching goal!

Great workout so far, Josie! I’m also looking forward to the BL premiere, but is each episode going to be 2 hours? That’s a lot of BL…
Congrats Josie! I hope all is well. When we first start working out after a layoff, we always hurt. You just have to make sure it is just soreness from the workout & nothing to the injury. I can’t see that you did anything that might do that BUT you need to see that for yourself. You may be sore for a couple days even! I remember when I was attacked by that dog last year. I was out for 7-10 days & went back & even doing a lighter version of my workout, I was sore! Keep up the good work but don’t reinjure!
We record BL cause I can’t stay up that late with my crazy times in the gym. I start into it but fall asleep half way thru!
Good luck tonight in the gym!
Great workout Josie. Please be careful with your arm, you don’t want to injure it. If it still hurts tomorrow, maybe be a little more gentle with it. I will match you on the 500 miles this year my friend. I don’t have a specific goal number of miles because my focus is going to be more on strength training and toning this year. But I know I will do at least 10 miles a week. It will be fun to work on this goal together!
Josie, I just saw on your daily mile that you jogged 2 miles. Way! To go! Girl! I am super proud of you. You are on your way to a super you!
Love the counter at the bottom of the posts, thats a great idea! I hope the soreness goes away too, but that really was a good workout
What’d you think about the BL Premier? I knew there was going to be a catch at the beginning when they sent two teams home, I’m glad one will have a chance to come back.
Great w/o, Josie! Feeling it the next day, for me, is one of the best parts. Stiff and sore makes Erin happy. An idea for breakfast – I always keep breakfast in my desk! I always have a large assortment of meal bars on hand, and I buy a bunch of bananas when I grocery shop and keep them @ work. Not sure what kind of breakfast person you are, and I don’t like to rely on my desk stash, but if I don’t have time to make breakfast, I won’t go hungry. Sorry to hear about your bicep, I didn’t know you had dealt with an injury. I just posted about mine…ugh!
Howyouduhin!!! I love the idea of the counter at the bottom of the blog for yearly walking goals…may I plleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease steal it?
Hope your injury status improves…and that your 2010 has started off well!
