Week 1 of the new year has come to and end, so that also means it’s time for my Perfect 10 Update, which is hosted by Steve.

Here were my Perfect 10 Goals and how I faired on each of them this week:
- Walk 100 miles over the course of the 10 weeks. This will help keep me on track to reach 500 for the year. I have walked 7 miles so far with plans on getting in at least another 6 by Sunday night. I think I’m right on track with this goal.
- Continue the C25K program, doing it at least 3 days per week until completed. I incorporated intervals of jogging into my routine (which is basically what Week 1 of C25K is) at the gym 2 nights this week. Will do my 3rd either tonight or tomorrow morning.
- Start riding my bike. No time or distance restraints for this. This one is purely just to get over my fear and DO it…at least once and I’ll be happy. Not yet.
- Not drink ANY soda. This is also a goal for the year. So far so good! I’m on day 102 of not having ANY soda!
- Participate in (3) 5k races. This will help keep me on track to do 12 for the year. I am already registered for one on Feb. 6 and considering another on March 13th. I need to find a third.
- Start a garden. Not yet, but I have started my research for it!
- Go to bed by 11:00 on work nights, but preferably 10:00. I’m going to have to work harder at this. I think I only succeeded two nights this week.
- Sign up for Karate (or another martial art if Karate isn’t available) Not yet. (Though I did attend a kickboxing class last night which will hopefully help prepare me)
- Go to the gym before work at least 3 days per week. No. But since I didn’t go in the mornings, I DID go in the evenings after work FOUR nights so far this week, so I still consider this a success. In fact, I may change the goal to just be three times a week and not necessarily mornings.
- Stay within my budget every month (using YNAB) This is a yearly goal as well. So far so good.
- Read the Bible each day using this plan. Another yearly goal. I got a little behind on this, so I’ll need to catch up this weekend. I’ve read Days 1-3, so I still need to read Day 4 through now.
All in all a GREAT week for me! I am hella sore today from last night’s kickboxing escapade. Wow. Parts of me ache that I never even knew I had! The worst is when I sit or stand up…my leg and ab muscles are sooooore. I feel great though. If I can keep those kind of workouts up, then hopefully I can start losing more pounds each week (but still at a healthy rate).
Let me end today’s post by sharing something I realized the other night. There I was at the gym walking at a 3.5 mph pace (which is very fast for my short legs) and feeling GOOD about it…and thinking to myself “wow, before long I will be running on this thing!”…just overall feeling great and thinking about all the possibilities in my future, when in comes this guy who hops on the treadmill next to me and starts running at 7.0 mph like it’s nothing. Almost instantly those feelings of inferiority and weakness start creeping back in. I started to think I was silly for ever thinking that *I* could ever become an athlete or a runner. How in the heck could *I* ever run a 5k, let alone a marathon?! And then it hit me that, HELLO?! I was walking *3.5 MPH*!!! Remember, it wasn’t that long ago (Oct 2nd to be exact, which was Day 4 of my journey), that I could only handle walking at 1.5 MPH! Yet, now I can walk at 3.5 mph! AND I’m jogging some now! So I guess what I realized in that moment is that I have been improving and if I keep it up, ANYthing is possible and who knows, I might be that gal who hops on the treadmill some day to run at 7.0 mph like it’s nothing! I’ve come a long way in 102 days…there’s no telling what all I can accomplish over the next 60 days in this challenge! So, if you’re out there, and you’re wondering if you could ever do this or that…and you’re feeling discouraged about whether or not you can succeed with weight loss and overall healthiness — please know that it was only 3 months ago that I was a lazy, junk food eating, chronic pepsi drinking, couch potato on a fast road to diabetes and heart disease. I made a decision to change my life and SO CAN YOU! Think about where you can be – as soon as three months from now! Exciting, huh?
egads! I forgot to mention something about me that you may or may not know! How about this – I had my first daughter on my birthday so we share the same birthday…aaaand I had my second daughter 1 week before my birthday. They are the best birthday gifts I’ve ever gotten!

Good work on your goals … and what beautiful daughters!
What beautiful daughters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are doing so great Josie… amazing! Love that you did kickboxing. I missed that post so need to read after this one. I am reading backwards. I am behind on my blog reading today! NO SODA!!! YAHOO! So many people gain weight drinking their calories!
And so glad you got past the guy next to you on the treadmill. I think the hardest thing for many of us.. not to compare ourselves to others! Good that you realized how far you have come!
I love your attitude! Keep up the good work!
Both your daughters are so pretty. I know you are very proud.
You have accomplished alot very quickly. It probably took that guy a very long time to work up to running like that. You have every reason to be proud of what you can do at this moment. I am glad you are doing so good on all your goals…keep it up!
You are an inspiration to me Josie. It is so cool to see how quickly you have progressed. I think your Perfect 10 goals are very good and perfectly in alignment with the goals you are setting for yourself for the year. You daughter’s are absolutely beautiful! Have a wonderful weekend!
Josie, while the update is great, the revelation you had is the best thing I have read all night!
you’ve come along way and you are doing awesome! Anything really is possible
Wow Josie, you’ve come SO FAR in only THREE months, you can be SO VERY PROUD!!! And I agree, when you look at your progress, that’s ALL you need to look at – no comparisons with other folk can even come close to what you’re busy doing for yourself – and by extension your family, giving them a healthy wife and mom. (You have totally gorgeous daughters!)
And kickboxing, too, amazing! You’re an inspiration to me.
You are just blowing the fish out of the water with your goals Josie! Great going! I would probably do some kick boxing too if I had a buddy to do it with. By myself I wouldn’t be brave enough. LOL
what a great realization about your exercise. You sure have come a long way in the past 100+ days. I know you’ll be doing 7 in no time! I love reading your posts!
Way to go chicky!! Sounds like you are off to a great start
Awesome goal progress! Way to go on turning the negative self-talk into a pep-talk! I love the power of a mindset!
Great effort with the goals!
You are doing great and your daughter is beautiful
Cute kids and great job on your goals. You’re owning this!
Your revelation on the treadmill was inspiring and something I really needed to hear. When I get on there gasping after a minute of jogging at 4.5mph I want to quit and eventually slow it down to a fast walk, I think “this just isn’t possible”…but now I’m gonna look at things from your perspective. Great thought!
You’ve started great on the first week of the Perfect 10! Well done!
And what a beautiful daughters you have!
My goodness…your daughters are so beautiful!
Way to go on the challenge! I am having so much fun with it. I love the community aspect of it.
I try not to compare myself to others, like you said, compared to what you were doing before you were rocking the treadmill. Great attitude Josie!
I am so excited for you. You’re really putting the effort in and I can hear the pride in your voice. Keep on Keep’n on!
Your daughters are GORGEOUS! They beautiful smiles just lit up the whole blog!
And great job on the goals…It’s great to see how you’re ticking each one off. I love that you have a bible-reading plan, too. I should start on that, since reading the bible is one of my new year prayer topics, too.
Girl, you are doing fantastic. You have no idea what the guy’s history is. He may have always been fit but maybe some day in the past he was where you are now, or where you were 3 months ago. Some day you will run a 5K and some day you will run a marathon. I really believe this! You rock.
