Week 1 of the new year has come to and end, so that also means it’s time for my Perfect 10 Update, which is hosted by Steve.

Here were my Perfect 10 Goals and how I faired on each of them this week:

  • Walk 100 miles over the course of the 10 weeks. This will help keep me on track to reach 500 for the year. I have walked 7 miles so far with plans on getting in at least another 6 by Sunday night. I think I’m right on track with this goal.
  • Continue the C25K program, doing it at least 3 days per week until completed. I incorporated intervals of jogging into my routine (which is basically what Week 1 of C25K is) at the gym 2 nights this week. Will do my 3rd either tonight or tomorrow morning.
  • Start riding my bike. No time or distance restraints for this. This one is purely just to get over my fear and DO it…at least once and I’ll be happy. Not yet.
  • Not drink ANY soda. This is also a goal for the year. So far so good! I’m on day 102 of not having ANY soda!
  • Participate in (3) 5k races. This will help keep me on track to do 12 for the year. I am already registered for one on Feb. 6 and considering another on March 13th. I need to find a third.
  • Start a garden. Not yet, but I have started my research for it!
  • Go to bed by 11:00 on work nights, but preferably 10:00. I’m going to have to work harder at this. I think I only succeeded two nights this week.
  • Sign up for Karate (or another martial art if Karate isn’t available) Not yet. (Though I did attend a kickboxing class last night which will hopefully help prepare me)
  • Go to the gym before work at least 3 days per week. No. But since I didn’t go in the mornings, I DID go in the evenings after work FOUR nights so far this week, so I still consider this a success. In fact, I may change the goal to just be three times a week and not necessarily mornings.
  • Stay within my budget every month (using YNAB) This is a yearly goal as well. So far so good.
  • Read the Bible each day using this plan. Another yearly goal. I got a little behind on this, so I’ll need to catch up this weekend. I’ve read Days 1-3, so I still need to read Day 4 through now.

All in all a GREAT week for me! I am hella sore today from last night’s kickboxing escapade. Wow. Parts of me ache that I never even knew I had! The worst is when I sit or stand up…my leg and ab muscles are sooooore. I feel great though. If I can keep those kind of workouts up, then hopefully I can start losing more pounds each week (but still at a healthy rate).

Let me end today’s post by sharing something I realized the other night. There I was at the gym walking at a 3.5 mph pace (which is very fast for my short legs) and feeling GOOD about it…and thinking to myself “wow, before long I will be running on this thing!”…just overall feeling great and thinking about all the possibilities in my future, when in comes this guy who hops on the treadmill next to me and starts running at 7.0 mph like it’s nothing. Almost instantly those feelings of inferiority and weakness start creeping back in. I started to think I was silly for ever thinking that *I* could ever become an athlete or a runner. How in the heck could *I* ever run a 5k, let alone a marathon?! And then it hit me that, HELLO?! I was walking *3.5 MPH*!!! Remember, it wasn’t that long ago (Oct 2nd to be exact, which was Day 4 of my journey), that I could only handle walking at 1.5 MPH! Yet, now I can walk at 3.5 mph! AND I’m jogging some now! So I guess what I realized in that moment is that I have been improving and if I keep it up, ANYthing is possible and who knows, I might be that gal who hops on the treadmill some day to run at 7.0 mph like it’s nothing! I’ve come a long way in 102 days…there’s no telling what all I can accomplish over the next 60 days in this challenge! So, if you’re out there, and you’re wondering if you could ever do this or that…and you’re feeling discouraged about whether or not you can succeed with weight loss and overall healthiness — please know that it was only 3 months ago that I was a lazy, junk food eating, chronic pepsi drinking, couch potato on a fast road to diabetes and heart disease. I made a decision to change my life and SO CAN YOU! Think about where you can be – as soon as three months from now! Exciting, huh?

egads! I forgot to mention something about me that you may or may not know! How about this – I had my first daughter on my birthday so we share the same birthday…aaaand I had my second daughter 1 week before my birthday. They are the best birthday gifts I’ve ever gotten!
