First I want to say how nice it was to come home and read such encouraging comments on my last post! Thank you all so much. Really, thank you. In ‘diets’ past, today would have easily been the day that I said ‘to hell with it’ and threw in the towel. This isn’t a diet though. This time is different and I’m glad I can share this journey with all of you.
I also saw a comment on another blog today that really spoke to me and helped shape my perspective back to where it should be:
I am not looking to the scale for my victory.
I just love that! I need to remember that when I don’t get the scale results I think I deserve.
I went to the gym this evening and that helped to get a lot of my frustration out. I did 1.5 miles on the treadmill alternating between jogging and walking. I was able to jog for up to 90 seconds without having to stop…I will conquer C25K day 1 if it kills me! I also rode 4 miles on the exercise bike trying to work my nerve up to get back on a real bike. (For those who don’t know, I have an irrational fear of riding my bike … afraid I will fall, or otherwise make a complete idiot of myself. That’s why bike riding is one of my New Years and Perfect 10 goals.)
Last but not least, a progress picture update.
Here I was on Day 1 of my journey back on September 28, 2009:

and here I am today, 105 days later:

Wow, did these pictures put a smile on my face tonight. The tank top is so loose now, that I have a hard time keeping the sleeves up. I think I will have to get a smaller size one to wear in future pictures. I can also start to notice my face thinning out some. This is the first progress picture where I can “see” that. The most noticeable difference is my chest area. I am now wearing a bra a size smaller than I was when I started this journey and it’s even loose. I suspect I could wear even another size down and be comfortable!
So, thanks to some great encouragement from friends (you all), a nice workout at the gym, and a picture comparison of my progress, I am now crawling out of the funk I was in this morning.
I can see and feel the progress I’ve made, regardless of some number on a scale…and I know it’s ALL been worth it. I realize I will have ups and downs along the way…and that’s okay.

Great work Josie! That progress pic is great, it really shows how hard you’ve worked and how far you’ve come. Keep it up!!!
Fantastic progress! It’s great to see that the hard work pays off!
good for you! those picture look great, you can really see the difference.
I am the same about being scared of falling off a bike, I actually am a bit scared to job on the treadmill in case I fall over. I can fall over on a perfectly flat path so I know what you mean.
Keep going!!
Oh wow… you really can tell a difference. Oh my gosh, you look awesome. Great job.
You are doing SO GREAT Josie – you are really inspiring to me – you should be really proud of yourself!
Yay for getting out of that funk! And, wow, Josie, those pictures sure are telling, huh? You look amazing! I hope you can use thiss confidence to push on.
And I love that affirmation, too: “I am not looking to the scale for my victory.”
Just look at how far you’ve come in 105 days. Think of where you’ll be after 210! It’s so exciting.
Wow Josie…you can really really see your results! I’m so proud of you. I love that you keep posting progress pics. I’m rooting for you. I NEED to start that couch25k thing ASAP. I keep putting it off….for no good reason!
Hot dayum, woman! Time to buy a new shirt! You look amazing! Glad to hear your spirits are lifted and you’re on track for a great week!
F*** that weight gain this week, look at that picture, you are doing an awesome job!
Holy CRAP, you are swimming in that tank top now, Josie! WOW! So glad you’re going to keep fighting the good fight.
Guess what Josie? You already have your jogging up to par for week 1. C25K only requires 60 secs of jogging/running, with 90 secs of recovery walking. I bet you can do the whole day1 of C25K right now! Don’t worry about speed. That can and will come later. I started my C25K at jogging at 4 mph. And now, I still only run at about 5.5 mph. I have the program up on my site if you need it.
I so can see the difference in your pics. You are looking great. Such a super great job Josie. I am so proud. Seeing your progress helps to keep me going too. If you can do it, so can I!
HOLY COW! Pictures tell all!!!! You look amazing! Great stuff & congrats on that workout! Sorry I missed your last post! BUT, you are doing GREAT! The pics show how worth the journey this is!
I love that quote! The scale does not always tell all!
PS: Having a Stevia giveaway over at my place!
I’m so glad you’ve got your positive outlook back! You have made such amazing progress since you started — great photos!
I also have some big bike phobias due to a bad bike accident as a kid. I’ve gone riding once since we moved and it was hard physically, but felt pretty liberating otherwise.
You gotta feel good about your progress. You can clearly see a positive change. You Rock!!!
Yep we loose it in our boooobs first. I always feel the weight lose in my fingers first. Maybe I’ll take a picture of my hands.
You’re doing great!
Wow Josie!! Your success is incredible!
My gosh, you’re swimming in those clothes! Pretty cool stuff, eh?
Thank you everyone. I am in awe of just how supportive and wonderful this community is. <3
JOSIE!!!!!!!!!!! WOW, what amazing photos! Super, super motivating, and a lesson for us all that the scale is not the only measurement. You should be SO stoked right now, congratulations, you ROCK, girl!
You are doing great. If you have any doubt – look at your photos. You are an inspiration to me Josie!
