Fiber Power!

Don’t laugh at the title :-P Hilary asked her readers for some calorie-friendly protein suggestions, and got some really great answers. Good idea, Hilary! Well, I need more fiber in my diet and thought I would ask you all for suggestions. What kinds of foods do you eat or recommend that have a good source of fiber? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Surprisingly, I’m not that sore from Zumba last night. Last week, when I did kickboxing, I was sore for DAYS afterwards. I could hardly walk the next day! Do you think it’s just that Zumba is more cardio based and kickboxing really works the muscles? Either way, I really enjoyed kickboxing, so I’m going to continue doing it. Tonight is my second class, so I’m preparing myself to be sore tomorrow!

Well, there’s not much more to say. I’m planning on going to bed as soon as I get back from kickboxing tonight, so I wanted to go ahead and get this posted now. I don’t know about you all, but I am really happy that tomorrow’s Friday and we’re one day closer to the weekend! Oh, and Perfect 10 update time. Hope everyone is still focused on their goals. I have noticed that I’m doing exceptionally well on my weight loss related ones, but the other ones, not so much (like reading the Bible and budgeting) but I’ll talk more about that tomorrow.

Oh, fiber! The essential fiber! :-P

Try some of these:
1 C. raspberries = 8g fiber
1 medium apple w/ skin = 4.5g fiber
1 C. whole wheat spaghetti = 6g fiber
1 C. pearled barley = 6g fiber
3/4 C. bran flakes = 5g fiber
1 C. split peas = 16g fiber
1 C. lentils = 15.5g fiber
1 C. black beans = 15g fiber
1 C. lima beans = 13 g fiber
1/4 C. sunflower seed kernels = 4g fiber
1 cooked artichoke = 10g fiber
1 C. cooked peas = 9g fiber
1 C. broccoli = 5g fiber
1 C. Brussels sprouts = 4g

I love raspberries, lentils, sunflower sweeds, black beans, broccoli, peas, and Brussels sprouts!!!

Hope this helps! If all else fails, invest in some sugar free Metamucil!!! Hope you had a good kickboxing class!!!

I’m far from a diet expert with my dislike of so many foods, but I found a DELICIOUS Fiber One Bar. They are pretty filling and 140 cals a piece. The flavor is like oats and choc chip or something like that and they are AMAZING.

Yeah, black beans are tasy and really high in fiber. I didn’t know about the artichoke, and I love artichoke, so that will be great to “induldge” in–of course without the yummy garlic butter, right?

I think the Zumba may have been less stressful on you, but I really think that it’s also partly that you’re getting stronger and your body’s getting used to all of the exertion. Great job, gal!

I am really enjoying high fiber whole wheat tortillas right now. I also grind whole flax seeds and add them to my smoothies. I am admiring the fact that you are trying so many new kinds of work outs. You are doing great!

I like oat bran + ground flax seeds. Put a little peanut butter and sugar-free syrup on it. *yum* If you try this, try a lower ratio of flax to oatbran until you get used to the taste.

I also like the sugar-free inulin powder in my coffee-reminds me, I’m out.

Another vote for high-fiber, low carb tortillas here!

Oh, and I make tea with chia seeds. Definitely an acquired taste and texture, but very nutritious and tons of fiber!

I’ve picked up some great tips from the comments as well. I normally start off my day with some oats or bran flakes. Apples are great too.

I also use the ground flax in smoothie and on oats ect.. I eat lots of broccoli and brussel sprouts too. Also, I use frozen mixed berries (raspberries, blueberries and blackberries) in my smoothies and oats as well. Lots of fiber there. :)

Looks like you already got lots of advice!!!! I make sure my healthy breads have a good amount of fiber, 4 grams or more. I like my oatmeal – although mine is a mix of oats, rye, millet & such. I love my veggies which were already mentioned & apples too! Looks like you got great advice!
