Week 2 of the new year has come to and end, so that means it’s also time for my Perfect 10 Update, which is hosted by Steve.

Here were my Perfect 10 Goals and how I faired on each of them this week:
- Walk 100 miles over the course of the 10 weeks. This will help keep me on track to reach 500 for the year. I have walked 11.5 miles so far. I’m a little behind on this. As you know I incorporated Zumba and kickboxing into my schedule this week, so that unfortunately took time away from my walking.
- Continue the C25K program, doing it at least 3 days per week until completed. Success. Each time I try I’m able to jog farther without having to stop. I will not give up on this.
- Start riding my bike. No time or distance restraints for this. This one is purely just to get over my fear and DO it…at least once and I’ll be happy. Not yet.
- Not drink ANY soda. This is also a goal for the year. So far so good! I’m on day 109 of not having ANY soda.
- Participate in (3) 5k races. This will help keep me on track to do 12 for the year. I am now registered for 2 – The Calusa Bug Chase on Jan 23rd and the Walk for Wishes on Feb. 6th. I still need to find a 3rd.
- Start a garden. Not yet, but I am still doing research for it. I know nothing about gardening, so this is a real learning experience for me.
- Go to bed by 11:00 on work nights, but preferably 10:00. Succeeded 3 out of 5 nights.
- Sign up for Karate (or another martial art if Karate isn’t available) Not yet.
- Go to the gym at least 3 times per week.Success. I went four times this week after work and plan on going tomorrow morning. (Today is my rest day)
- Stay within my budget every month (using YNAB) This is a yearly goal as well. Eh, not so much. I had a couple purchases this week that got me a little off track. Nothing that can’t be rectified by next week though.
- Read the Bible each day using this plan. Another yearly goal. Epic FAIL on this. Did no reading at all this week.
Overall I’m happy with where I’m at, especially in the area of fitness. I’ve increased the intensity of my workouts big time and I’m hoping for a much better result on the scale come Monday’s weigh-in.
The other part of this challenge is to post something that others may not have known about me. I was on the Crew team during my two semesters at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I know, shocking, huh? I often think back and wonder how different my life might have been had I just stayed with it. We met almost daily at about 4 AM where we ran FOUR miles on the beach (Daytona), and do other exercises such as squats and jumping jacks. After the workout, we’d carry the boat into the water and just row our hearts out. It was such an amazing experience, one that I’d love to do again. Coach Quinn was our coach that year and he was such a great mentor to me. I was the heaviest person on our team, but he accepted me anyway under the premise that I wouldn’t want to take short cuts and that I would work as hard as everyone else. He gave me a chance, ya know? Things like that you just don’t forget.

Good job on everything Josie! You’re doing so well!!
How are you finding jogging? It’s still tough to me, but I think it would be easier if I could figure out the proper breathing technique. Good luck on the scale Monday!
You are doing really well. I’m close to two years without soda myself!
You are doing great. And wow, what amazing things we learn about our blogging friends.
If I can put in my 2 cents about gardening– check out

I have gardened this way for about 10 years now and will never go back to the old ways. I find it very simple, extremely productive and little work caring and maintainance wise. And I was surprised and thrilled to learn that our Perfect 10 Steve also square foot gardens!
You are doing great!!!! Success!!! Hey, maybe you should think abut rowing again since you liked it! You go to a gym, right? Do they have a rowing machine? My does… a good workout!
Congrats Josie!
Wow! Kicking butt on the exercise portions. And I’m sure you’ll get there with the reading and sleeping and budgeting eventually. You’re doing so well so far.
Go, go on the C25K! You can do it!
Kick@$$!!! Great report this week, Josie!
I love gardening and am so happy to finally have a house to be able to do it from. When I was in my apartment the last 6 years, I attempted to do box gardens, and it worked to some extent. Some things just didn’t work out, though. Glad to have a house and a patch of lawn to convert!
Great job on your fitness goals, Josie! I agree — if you loved rowing crew, try a rowing machine at your gym. I LOVE to row and I’d kill (well, ok, not really) to have access to a rowing machine.
Especially when spring comes, maybe you can find a crew club!
You are doing a great job Josie!!!
I have to admit, I didn’t know what a crew team was, but now I do.
BTW, have you checked into square foot gardening?
Great Job!
Yep I’m off of soda too. I’ve replaced it with Green Tea. Love it! You’re moving a lot. I like that you’ve shaken it up a bit with the classes. This will keep it interesting. I’ve always wondered if I could be on a Crew team. We have the Kenai Crew staffed with women my age. Hmm maybe someday. What’s amazing is that through this transformation we’re proving to ourselves that we can anything we set our minds to.
I didn’t know you were on the crew team? That’s something cool to know. I bet you can really look back on that w/ fond memories. I hate water so I can see myself running 4 miles and doing the exercise some day in the future… but NO TO THE BOAT!!!! You’re doing really well girl. As always, so very proud of you.
Does the soda include diet soda? I have quite an…addiction to them, so I can imagine how hard it is to go so many days without it!
Try Tae Kwon Do!!! I’m partial to it myself, since I did it for a few years.
Thanks everyone for your comments! I WISH my gym had a rowing machine! but it doesn’t…doing it on a boat though is much more fun. I think I’ll add “find a rowing team” to the list of things I want to do!
Steve and Karyn, thanks for the suggestions on Square foot gardening! I never heard of it. Was showing the website to my hubby last night and this might be the way we go!
Sophia – I’d love Tae Kwon Do! I have to figure out what’s available here at a time I can do it. Thanks for the suggestion! And yes, it means all soda even diet. I had to quit cold turkey it was the only thing that would work for me!
Joise – Great job this week! I can totally see you on crew! That is something I have always wanted to do. They rent kayaks in the harbor near our house. I want to do that sometime. Keep up the good work!
Wow, Josie, a good week and such a super interesting fact about you. People giving us that chance and believing in us make A WORLD OF A DIFFERENCE in our lives, don’t they? It reminds me to approach other people the same way.
I’d LOVE to row. And hey, you’ve had an intense workout week, congratulations!
Come on you can do the bike thing! I am guessing this isnt a stationary bike. The worst that can happen is you fall, big deal, we did it multiple times a day as kids and we’re still here! You can doooit!
Overall a good week on the Perfect 10. Congrats and keep it up, you’re doing great!
