Day 1 on Weight Watchers & a new definition of sore

by Josie on March 18, 2010 · 25 comments

This will be a short post because as the title implies, I am SORE and very tired. I mean, sore like I’ve never experienced before. My legs are so sore that when I went to workout on the treadmill today, I literally couldn’t. My knees kept buckling and every few seconds I felt like I was going to fall because my legs would buckle. So I got off and did some on the elliptical and exercise bike. Not much, but at least I tried.

Today was also day 1 of my new Weight Watchers eating program. So far so good! I had breakfast this morning which is a victory in itself. I’m now sitting at 23 points for the day which is right on target. I’ll admit, that I’m pretty hungry tonight. I’m having to try really hard to resist getting a snack. It’s probably more mental than anything. My mind knows that I’m changing my eating habits so I want more. I dunno, but I think I’m just gonna go to bed. It’s so much easier to resist food when you’re asleep! :-D

G’night everyone!

103.75 miles walked/jogged/ran since January 1st. (2010 Goal: 500)
20.5 miles biked since January 1st. (2010 Goal: 300)

After what you did, you should be sore! It is like running a race before you ever even attempt to jog! WOW!!!!!!

Hang in there! I agree, hard to eat when you are asleep! :-) Although I have heard stories of those sleep eaters.. YIKES!

Congrats for completing that workout and even more for getting BACK to the gym today!

Your body is sore, but it’s a good sore :)

And good luck with WW! Maybe try drinking some water (even though it makes you pee like crazy) before bed. That usually makes my hunger go away. If you’re still hungry after, eat something. No good starving yourself.

Awesome job with your workout and with Weight Watchers! Let me know how it works for you. I was only so-so with that program because I’m a little controlling and I found it to be a little too ambiguous for me. I also didn’t like how it really didn’t hold you accountable for what you eat.

Ouch!!

Don’t you get so many bonus points a week on WW? My friends do….and then “active” points or something? I dunno I’ve never done it but they talk about it all the time. Hope your soreness gets better!

I feel the same way everytime my trainer puts me on a new strength routine! Strangely, I kind of like the soreness now. Represents progress I guess.

Great job getting back on the horse. Not sure if I could even do the elliptical after a workout like that!

And your eating? Wow, it’s like a whole new Josie. I’m sure you’ll be going down and down on the scale.

Ouch, I felt similar when I started The 30 Day Shred. I took alot of hot baths with Epsom Salts and that helped alot. I hope you feel better tomorrow and can get another good workout in. You are amazing, ms josie!

Oooh, ouch! I’ve felt that kind of sore once before – the first time I did the ‘30 Day Shred’ DVD (I’ve still only done it 4 times). My legs literally wouldn’t do certain things, it wasn’t a matter of pushing past the pain, they would just buckle. I don’t envy you right now, it wasn’t fun. :( Good thing is that it gets better after a couple of days and your legs will be sooo much stronger.

When I get night munchies I make a pot of green tea and have a few cups. I find my stomach responds to the full feeling and stops the hunger.

OUCH! But YAY, at the same time. You rocked that workout yesterday. Take a hot bath with some essential oils or epsom salt. When I feel hunger, and I know it’s MENTAL hunger, I grab a huge glass of ice water and chew some gum. If it still bugs me, I go to bed. You are on the right track – changing our thoughts about food is harder than actually changing our food.

Go girl!

Good work and dedication. keep it up! I have always been curious as to what happens if you are on WW for a long period of time and then stop it? Do you continue on with like foods or do people then struggle with it? Just wondering.

Congrats on eating breakfast!

I’m with Jess that there is no point in starving yourself if your body is honestly telling you that you are hungry. Be wise and pick something good for it. Listening to our bodies is what we are all trying to learn.

WW is a great program, although I’d be scared to think I only had 23 points. (But I’m also male and WAY bigger than you, too.) Can’t wait to read your first weigh-in after a week on program! :)

Just found your blog today!

Hang in there! I agree with some of the others, don’t go hungry if you are physically hungry. If it is just mental, I find a cup of tea works wonders but also getting to the bottom of why you feel the need to eat if it isn’t physical hunger.

The soreness will pass…that was a heckuva workout you had the other day! “Active rest” days with gentle activity like walking and stretching can really help a lot.

Best wishes with Weight Watchers! It’s a sensible program, and a lot of people have good experiences with it.

You got one hell of a workout in this week, it’s no wonder you’re hurting. It’s a good pain though and I’m sure you are embracing it. It will get easier.

When I was on WW I did really well. I like the program and I’m glad you are doing it. The only reason I stopped is because I was pregnant. I still tried to go to the meetings since my husband has just started and they literally kicked me out of a meeting. I was like WTF??? I’m paying, I am just here to support him. They wouldn’t budge. It was a liability thing. So we left. 5+ years later I would do the program again beause it’s sensible. But I like the low carb diet. If I decide to change WW would be the first program I would go back to.

The positive thing about being sore is that you know that you’ve worked out :)

I’m always interested in connecting with people, and helping them if I can. I know what it’s like trying to lose weight – so many different ‘experts’ have so many ideas, and some of the ideas are rubbish, you just can’t work out which. I think the most important thing is to look at lifestyle changes, not diets – go go on a diet, you go off a diet and the weight goes on again when you go off! If you change the way you live your life, you stop the on again off again yo-yo that keeps the weight where you don’t want it to be. I lost weight, others can too.
